In yet another good news for buyers, E-commerce giant Flipkart and Amazon may soon launch another round of festive season sales. Flipkart, which recently held a five-day Big Billion Days (BBD) sale, has decided to hold another round of sales and that too till October 1, ToI reported accessing a company communication to its sellers. Given that many consumers tend to delay their festive purchases till Dhanteras, both Flipkart and Amazon will hold another big sale event closer to Diwali, the report said. Like Flipkart, Amazon too issued a communique to sellers, asking them to be prepared for another round of sales likely to be held in the first week of October.

The e-commerce giant has also asked its sellers that they should focus on adding supplies across categories in the run-up to Diwali. According to data released by market research firm, RedSeer Consulting, the online e-commerce industry has clocked a 40% growth in sales at $1.5 billion (Rs 9,000 crore). As per a report, same festival sale period a year ago had generated sales worth $1 billion. It has been noted that unlike last year, when the FMCG and grocery were the highest-selling categories, both Amazon and Flipkart have generated a majority of their sales from smartphones, large appliances, fashion and lifestyle, apart from home and kitchenware.

“Last year, one of the reasons behind the category doing well in terms of sales was because Dussehra was at the beginning of the month. While this year grocery and FMCG did witness an increase in sale in terms of number of units sold, there were other categories, such as smartphones, large appliances and fashion, which witnessed an increase in terms of value of sales,” said Manish Tiwary, VP – category management, Amazon India. Amazon India even claims that membership of its paid ‘Prime’ subscribers has seen a growth of over 400 per cent during the four-day sale.
