Larsen & Toubro, Sojitz Corp win Rs 3,799 cr Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India

A consortium of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and Japan's Sojitz Corp, has won an order worth R3,799 crore from the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL), a company statement said on Friday.

A consortium of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and Japan’s Sojitz Corp, has won an order worth R3,799 crore from the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL), a company statement said on Friday.

This is the first composite contract won by a single bidder in the upcoming dedicated freight corridor.

FE had reported in its edition dated August 8 that L&T along with its partner Sojitz Corp is well on track to win this contract.

The design and build integrated package involves the construction of civil (embankment, structure, tunnel), track works, overhead electrification, traction substations and signalling & telecommunication works for double line electrified tracks, high rise overhead catenary system, for 128 kilometre stretch between Rewari and Dadri. The project is located at the northern end of Western Corridor and forms a link between the eastern and western corridors.

With this win, L&T shall be constructing 1,042 kilometre out of the total 1,464 kilometre of track in the Western Corridor.

In 2013, L&T-Sojitz consortium won a R6,700 crore worth of contract to construct 626 kilometres of a double-track corridor from Rewari in Haryana to Iqbalgarh in Gujarat via Rajasthan, across three states.

In January 2016, it also won a R1,213 crore electrification works contract for a 422 km section from Vadodara in Gujarat to JNPT (near Mumbai) in Maharashtra.

The western dedicated freight corridor once complete will run through five states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. It begins at Dadri near Delhi in Uttar Pradesh where a new railway line between Dadri -Rewari is being made, this will then run parallel to existing line via Narnaul, Ringas.
