With huge potential for wool products globally, knitwear garment exporters from nearby Tirupur are keen on doing business in the sector, a senior official in Woolmark Company, producing Merino wool, has said. The company had conducted a workshop to educate manufacturers and exporters on the natural properties of the fiber and up-skill their technical expertise in June last year and a few companies had successfully developed samples of garments made by wool, Woolmark company Country Manager India, Arti Gudal said. Arti was in Tirupur on Friday for the secondary level workshop to help impart knowledge and technical skills about Australian Merino wool to manufacturers and exporters.”The southern region is a crucial market for the Company due to its rapid growth in ready-made knitted garments and existing skill set that has endless potential, Arti said in a release today.

Stating that Woolmark wanted to encourage manufacturers and exporters use Merino wool as a fiber and provide them necessary technical support, she said they were extremely cooperative and established keen interest in developing fabric using this fiber throughout their supply chain. “Our joint efforts will help produce and position Merino wool garments in a different light, and drive consumption locally as well as globally,” she said. Apart from the sweater, wool could be used in the manufacture of sportswear, T-Shirts, and casuals, with a special quality to use in both hot and cool climatic conditions, she said.
Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) President, Raja Shanmugham said wool knitwear products are a good opportunity for the industries to diversify their products.It was TEA’s mission to reach a goal of Rs one lakh crore exports in another four years he said and thanked Woolmark for extending its technical support in developing the Wool market in Tirupur.
