Only electric cars by 2030: At CII, @PiyushGoyal says govt setting up charging stations & battery exchange scheme to effect dramatic change.

Appreciate @PiyushGoyal’s zeal for pushing breakthru ideas. After LED bulbs & Electric Cars, thrust is on ‘Solarisation’ of farm energy.

Powering up new ideas
The power minister said the government will invest in building infrastructure for charging of electric vehicles across the country beginning with the larger cities where pollution is high. There is also an effort to benchmark power pricing at Rs 3 per unit across all energy sources in the medium term.

For first time in India’s history, Coal India’s production target has been officially reduced from 660mt to 600mt due to weak power demand.

Coal cutback
Coal India currently has a stock of nearly 69 million tonnes (mt) of coal in addition to the available stock of 26-28 mt with power plants across the country. In 2016-17, Coal India produced 554.1 mt of coal.

Rs 1.40 lac crs stuck! Strongly recommend Govt come up with a meaningful package for 28,000 MW of idling gas-based power plants.

Distress signals
With the removal of subsidies provided by the government under the gas price pooling mechanism, LNG prices for power companies are set to rise. A new policy approach is needed to tackle the impact on gas based power companies and their stakeholders.

Large business opportunity for Make In India in Railway coaches: 40,000 coaches to be retrofitted @Rs 20 lacs / coach + 6000 new coaches.

Railways gets on to the safety track
In a major initiative to beef up railway safety, Indian Railways will retrofit Centre Buffer Coupler (CBC) on coaches. The CBC absorbs high frequency forces during impact and has the inherent anti-climbing feature in case of accidents.

Pragati Maidan’s new makeover
ITPO has unveiled a new plan for the redevelopment of Pragati Maidan. The Integrated Exhibition and Convention Centre (IECC) project will have seven exhibition halls, a convention centre, an administrative block, and an underground parking that can contain 4800 vehicles at a time.

Taking Air Travel To The Masses
Airports to be connected under the UDAN scheme include Bhatinda, Shimla, Bilaspur, Neyveli, Cooch Behar, Nanded and Kadapa. The Prime Minister while inaugurating the first flight said he wants to “see people who wear hawaii chappals (slippers) in a hawai jahaaz (aircraft)”.

Made In India Metro: No quarrels over 75% local procurement norm for coaches & critical equipment. Pvt / PSUs / MNC capacities established.

Metro’s Make In India push
The Urban Development ministry has made it mandatory for a minimum of 75% of tendered metro cars to be manufactured indigenously for which suppliers may establish independent manufacturing facilities or partner with Indian companies.
