India’s sports fraternity on Friday lavished praise on Satnam Singh Bhamara’s achievement after the teenager became the first Indian to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The 7 foot-2 inch basketball prodigy, who hails from a remote village in Punjab, was selected as the 52nd pick of the 60 young men in the NBA Draft for the Dallas Mavericks.
2004 Olympics silver medallist shooter and now Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore congratulated Satnam, saying that “Indian Youth once again break the Glass Ceiling. Nothing is impossible!!”
Meanwhile, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also expressed his happiness on Satnam’s achievement.
“Bruuuha! Congratulations Satnam Singh for creating history. First Indian ever to be picked in NBA draft. That’s great news,” tweeted Test skipper Virat Kohli.
Indian Premier League cricket teams Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals also joined the list to applaud Satnam on his achievement.
