Just one day ahead of the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale, e-commerce major stole the festive season thunder from its arch rival when it offered the latest book by Chetan Bhagat One Indian Girl at a price of Re 1. “Just for today, October 1, every customer that bought a book from our extensive Flipkart Assured books collection could buy the brand new bestseller from Chetan Bhagat, One Indian Girl, for just Re 1,” said Flipkart on its website.
Interestingly, Amazon had an exclusive pre-order of Chetan Bhagat’s One Indian Girl and the online retailer said it created a record as the biggest pre-order for a book across categories on its site in India.
There has been ongoing tussle between Flipkart and Amazon in the past with other such launches of new books by authors. Both the e-commerce players had clashed during the launches of other books like Half Girlfriend by Chetan Bhagat in August 2014 where Flipkart sent legal notice to Amazon for selling the book, as it had exclusive rights.
Similarly in 2015, Amazon got an exclusive deal for Scion of Ikshvaku by Amish Tripathi. Publisher Westland filed a case against Flipkart for selling the book but it later withdrew the case.
In the latest launch of One Indian Girl, according to Amazon, the author Chetan Bhagat had personally hand-delivered some of the pre-orders at midnight and 70% of the pre-orders were delivered on the launch day itself.
While Amazon Great Indian Festival sale started today, Flipkart Big Billion Days sale and Snapdeal sale will start from October 2, on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
