Flipkart Big Billion Days sale Day 1: All the major e-commerce players in India have launched their Diwali sale and the effect on sales, according to them, is spectacular. Goods across categories are flying off the shelves and Flipkart in particular has said that it sold over half a million products within one hour on Day 1 of the sale across the country. Sister concern Myntra too clocked 3 times more revenue in the first hour when compared to Big Billion Days 2015 edition.

Flipkart Big Billion Days sale saw the highest number of concurrent users within the first 5 minutes of going live, indicating that the consumers were greatly enthused and were waiting literally with their credit cards in their hands to corner the best deals on offer! According to Flipkart, this was 10x more than the response on any other normal day. Also, according to the eretailer, this was the highest ever in Flipkart’s history.

All the categories saw vigorous turnover during the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale, says the online company. Within Flipkart’s electronics and gadget category, the eretailer sold more Apple watches in 10 minutes than the total sale of Apple watches online and offline in a month.

Not just small, but pricey, items even larger ones like TV’s, are flying off the shelves. Flipkart says a number of large size (40 inch and above) LED TVs were sold in 6 hours. This is more than the total number of TV’s sold last year during the event.

According to Flipkart, more than 40% of customers who shopped for home appliances opted for product exchange schemes.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Head, Category Design Organization, Flipkart said, “The Big Billion Days, like every year, has now set a new landmark in the history of commerce in the country. What makes it special is that the number of units sold in the first 6 hours of sale surpassed the total units sold in a day during the first day of The Big Billion Days in 2015! It’s a matter of immense delight to see this response from our consumers, inspiring us to make it even more special over the course of next 4 days of this sale.”
