Rise in e-commerce companies and resultant growth in warehousing and material handling is driving automation in the sector.
Nord Drivesystems, a company that makes drive systems that moves goods in these warehouses, heavy industries, food processing and airports, expects its business in India to double in near future.
Jutta Humbert, MD, of Hamburg-based Nord Drivesystems, said while the demand from heavy industry had slowed down the demand from e-commerce, food and pharma companies for smaller systems had increased in the Indian market. Introduction of GST is expected to give another boost to the warehousing business and this will have a big impact of their business, Humbert said.

Maker of tea brand, Society Tea, has installed 700 drives for automatic handling of material at the company and another OEM, He-man Auto Robopark has used their system to set up an automated car parking system at a Kochi Hospital, he said.
