The total number of passengers carried by the domestic airlines within the country during the January-November period in 2015 increased 20% y-o-y to 733.22 lakh when compared to 609.43 lakh passengers in the corresponding period in 2014, data available with director general of civil aviation showed.

Though low cost airline Indigo maintained the top spot in terms of market share and passengers carried, Ajay Singh led SpiceJet has managed to stage a turn around by recording a 120 basis points increase in the passenger load factor (PLF) during year. The PLF for Spice Jet in January last year stood at 80%, while the same in November improved to 90.2% due to improved efficiency in the operations and successful repayment of the dues by the new management.

Spice Jet continues to lead the chart with the highest PLF among the domestic players in the last seven months.
