The Supreme Court will hear on January 18 an appeal filed by NGO United RWAs Joint Action (URJA) challenging the Delhi High Court judgment that quashed the Delhi government’s decision ordering a CAG audit of power discoms in the national capital.

A bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar posted the matter for hearing on January 18 as a counsel informed it that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India is also filing an appeal on the issue.

The HC had on October 30 quashed the AAP government’s decision for CAG audit of the discoms on the ground that the CAG audit would not serve any public purpose, as the scope of the CAG audit would only be tariff determination, which lies completely within the domain of DERC.

The discoms  — Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), BSES Rajdhani Power and BSES Yamuna Power — had challenged the AAP government’s January 7, 2014, decision ordering a CAG audit of their accounts.
