Online shopping has become a mundane affair. But it often happens that your package which is due for delivery has to face your locked door and go back because you were out for some work or an errand. In such a situation, one has to resort to his/her neighbours for collecting the delivery item. What if, you did not have to deal with all this? What if you get to decide when to collect your delivery? Smartbox, a start-up based in Noida is a one-step solution for all such problems.

With their automated delivery terminals present across 120 centres in Delhi NCR, they use technology that tracks your order for your convenient collection. The start-up is currently under integration with a number of e-commerce websites such as– Shopclues, Oriflame, Voonik, Healthkart and others. Notably, their service is free for the online customer, it is the e-commerce client that pays.

Once a customer’s parcel is delivered at their terminal, the customer gets an OTP that is to be used to pick-up the order at their suitable time.

One might think that getting the delivery at your neighbour’s house won’t be a bad option. But not everybody is comfortable with sharing what they’ve shopped and of course, not everybody shares a cordial relationship with their next-door people.

“On an average one courier boy can make 30-35 attempts and 25-30 deliveries in a day. We increase that efficiency by 10X because now every attempt is a successful delivery. And with our type of ‘milk run’ delivery format where their delivery person has to go to fixed spots in a city and drop off parcels on a machine without calling the recipient or waiting for them or for the cash transaction to happen, etc. So the same 1 delivery boy can now do 300-400 deliveries per day, ” said Amit Sawhney, Founder and CEO.

Talking about their plans for the coming year, Sawhney said, “In phase 1 – we intend to cover top 8 metros of the country in this FY.  And from next year we will go to the remaining Tiers of the country. Meanwhile, we are expecting to touch 5,000 transactions a day from coming quarter and going up to 30,000 transactions a day within a year. Taking our monthly revenue run rate at approx. Rs. 4crores per month at that time.”

So the next time you have to go to your office, and your shopping package is due for delivery, you know what to do. Also, it might save you the time you put in to explain the delivery guy your address!
