India saw the highest outflow of foreign institutional investors among the emerging markets in January and the sectors which witnessed major sell-offs were industrials, cement and pharmaceuticals. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors continue to be net buyers in Q3FY16 and they bought relatively high stakes in private banks, industrials, IT and pharma.

In line with other emerging markets, foreign portfolio investor (FPI) flows into Indian equities may continue to remain weak in Q4FY16. Since FPIs have chased quality stocks in the past, the current sell-off provides long-term investment opportunities in some quality stocks.
