To beat the lean season, Indian budget carriers, including GoAir, IndiGo and AirAsia have come up with attractive airfares beginning July to September. For airlines, June to September is the lean season as schools open after summer break in July.

After GoAir, which has announced a monsoon bonanza with ticket prices as low as Rs 849, IndiGo Airlines are now offering ticket fares starting at Rs 1,106 (all inclusive). Customers can get the ticket booked to travel between July 1 and September 30th. Earlier, IndiGo had launched promotional fares starting at Rs 789, all inclusive.

IndiGo website showed that as part of the new Rs 1,106 offer, a one way ticket from Jammu to Srinagar will cost Rs 1,106, while Delhi to Mumbai Rs 2,749.

“Airlines offer discount schemes during the lean season—i.e. June to September. This is the time when travel domestically and internationally is a bit slow and in order to encourage leisure travellers to go on a short vacation, airlines offer such fares. The discount range from 15 to 20 per cent. However, there is also a catch here, the discount is on the basic fare and that at times could be low. Finally, the discounts do get sold out early so it is advisable to book early, John Nair, Head, Business Travel, Cox & Kings Ltd said.

GoAir ‘Monsoon & More’ on Wednesday came up with promotional sale offering ticket prices as low as Rs 849. The scheme offers 60 per cent off on pre-booking of meals, 10 per cent cashback for paying via Paytm and voucher worth Rs 200 from Cafe Coffee Day. GoAir’s scheme is valid for booking between June 29 and July 2, 2016 for travel period between July 1 and September 30th 2016.

For a GoAir flight from Delhi to Mumbai on July 3rd will cost around Rs 2,940. Usually, without the discount offer, the lowest fare for Delhi-Mumbai flights for most airline range over Rs 4,000 and go higher based on demand.

SpiceJet to deal with the lean season had introduced promotional sale under “monsoon bonanza sale” with fares starting from Rs 444 for travelling period of July 1 to September 30, sale of which ended on June 26.

AirAsia recently announced an exclusive ‘Fly like a Superstar’ promotional sale with ticket prices as low as Rs 786 one-way to domestic destinations in India connected by AirAsia India (Flight code i5), departing from Bengaluru or New Delhi. The budget carrier is the official airline partner for the much-awaited Rajinikanth starrer movie ‘Kabali’. Tickets are available for booking from June 27th 2016 to July 3rd 2016 for travel between February 1, 2017 and April 30, 2017.

To tap on the discounted fares, customers have already started booking their tickets for long weekends falling between the July and October period. “We are seeing an increase in flight bookings for long weekends such as Independence Day Weekend: 13th-15th August (Saturday-Monday) and Janamashthami Weekend: 25th – 28th August (Thursday-Sunday, Take leave on Friday), ” John Nair added.
