German auto major Volkswagen is planning to launch four new products in the domestic market. The planned launches include a sub-4 metre sedan, a new SUV and re-launch of the Beetle.
“India is an important market for Volkswagen. In next 24 months, we plan to launch five products,” Volkswagen passenger cars director Michael Mayer said at the launch of the new version of mid-sized sedan Vento.
The New Vento, which will come in both diesel and petrol variants, will be available in the price range of Rs 7.85 lakh and R 11.87 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Apart from the improved design and inclusion of innovations in accessories, the New Vento brings improved fuel efficiency compared with the previous version, the company said. The company had first launched Vento in 2010 and sold around 1.10 lakh units of the sedan since then. Volkswagen is planning to launch the 8th generation of the Passat sedan and brand new sports utility vehicle Tiguan in the country, Mayer said.
As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, in 2014-15 the company sold 45,012 units against 52,525 units in the previous fiscal, down 14.3%. The overall car sales in India in FY15 stood at 18,76,017 units compared with 17,86,826 units in the previous fiscal, up 4.99%.
However, in the current financial year, Volkswagen India has been able to clock a 36.08% growth in sales in the April-May period. It sold 7,739 units against 5,687 units last year.
