Home grown automaker, Tata Motors has launched base model Twist XE at an amazingly affordable price of Rs 2.06 lakh. Company had earlier upgraded its top trim XT model with power steering which costs Rs 40,000 more than this new base model. The new addition come at a very crucial time when almost all the automakers are announcing their new products and face lifted models.
The Tata Nano Twist XE model is available in three exciting colors-Meteor Silver, Royal Gold and Serene White. It continues to carry power steering and air conditioning though other features such as power windows, audio system, keyless entry, coin and magazine holder, a 12v power socket and central locking system have been omitted from this variant. The model also comes equipped with a revised instrument cluster that would display vehicle information such as trip meter, distance travelled, fuel economy and digital clock.
As far as exteriors are concerned, features like fog lamps, rear spoiler, roof mounted antenna and front chrome strip also do not find a place in the base model due to the price factor, though they are much celebrated features of the top trim XT. The XE model follows the No-Body-Color-Theme and gets black front bumpers, door handles and ORVMs. Adding more to the interiors, the model does get dual glove box, black sporty fabric interiors, 3 spoke steering wheel, front console cup holders, cabin lamp, front and rear seat headrests, driver seat height adjustability, front and rear assist grips, low fuel warning lamp and rear seat folding.
Under the hood, the car still carries a 2-cylinder 624cc petrol engine which produces 37bhp and 51Nm of maximum torque. The engine comes mated to a four speed manual gearbox which supports rear wheel drive. The model claims a fuel economy of 25.35 kmpl, for which it is always looked upon.
But Tata hasn’t compromised much in the safety department of this base model. The car comes with basic features like booster assisted brakes, front and rear seat belts, center high mount stop lamps and intrusion beam which is an integral feature achieved through innovative door design and additional body reinforcements.
Though the Nano models haven’t quite set the sales chart on fire since launch, the company plans to revive its subdued sales by giving a fresh makeover to the most affordable car in the world. Nano surely is an easy-to-drive vehicle for the Indian roads with quick and hassle free turns in even tight spaces which other hydraulic steering equipped models cannot achieve. Now the consumers need to choose from only two variants for power steering feature- XT and XE.
With a host of variants, features and color schemes, Nano Twist is now a well polished car. The company is trying hard to leave no stone unturned keeping the promise made by Ratan Tata to deliver the cheapest car ever made which can be afforded by any low-middle class family.
Unveiling the Nano Twist range last year, Mr.Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors had said that Nano has always been a path breaking invention and class-leading value since its inception. The company’s core philosophy of blending the best technology and design with anticipated customer needs is what Nano has always stood for, bringing ‘Awesomeness’ to a whole new level.
The R&D department of Tata is also working on to install the AMT technology in Nano alongside new turbo-charge engine to elevate the sales of Nano. Lets hope the newer implementation in the car would give it another lease of life.
