Maruti Suzuki Alto has now become the country’s all-time best-selling car with a cumulative sales of 30 lakh since its launch in September 2000. It took about 15 years and 6 months for Maruti Alto to achieve this milestone, and this makes it the only auto brand to achieve this.
The Alto is also the country’s top-selling model for over 10 years in a row with an average monthly sales of 22,000. Addition to the total domestic sales of over 30 lakh, the company has exported 3.8 lakh units of the Alto to over 70 countries.

While Alto’s true essence lies in its remarkable fuel efficiency, performance, attractive price and low maintenance, it has a zippy and sporty design that appeals to customers. Over the years, Maruti Suzuki has kept the brand rejuvenated with latest technology, features and design. Alto is being offered with features – airbag and Auto Gear Shift – at par with higher segment cars. These initiatives have helped enhance the brand’s connect with its customers and maintain its popularity.”
Besides affordability, low maintenance cost and high fuel efficiency, what also helped the Alto continue its sales momentum is the fact that the company kept upgrading it on time. The current Maruti Alto model comes with two engine options – 800cc (Alto 800) and 1000cc (K10). There’s also a CNG variant on sale that has a huge buyer base in cities where CNG is available.
