Ashok Leyland Limited (ALL) on Monday said it has become the first CV maker to launch the Circuit electric bus designed and engineered entirely in India. In line with Ashok Leyland’s vision for the future of mass mobility, the country’s first Made in India 100% electric bus is a zero-emission vehicle specifically for Indian road and load conditions.
This new Circuit range of vehicles will be offered on multiple platforms. The move follows union government’s ambitious programme of Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles (FAME) in India as National Electric Mobility Mission (NEMM) plans, said Vinod K Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland, here. NEMM plan calls for at least 20% of total bus industry will be electric by 2020.
Addressing a press conference, Dasari said: “The Circuit series of buses is another testament to Ashok Leyland’s commitment to leverage India’s technological innovation to deliver relevant and best-in-class solutions for India and the world. In April 2015, at FAME Delhi workshop, we had committed to vehicles with full electric power trains by January 2017. I am happy to dedicate the first vehicle in this new Circuit series, ahead of schedule.”
Responding to questions, Dasari said: “The first model is a 30-seater one and with a single charge of 3 hours it can travel between 120 kms to 150 kms. These buses are suitable for airport.”
