People’s reaction to Arnab Goswami’s resignation as the editor-in-chief of Times Now on social media has shown how popular and successful he has been during his tenure at the organisation. While the news of his resignation was shocking for many, for the rest, including his critics, it was an occasion to give him the credit for building a top Indian English language TV news channel from the scratch and leaving the competition far behind.
As Arnab moves on to start something new, here are five success mantras that could be inferred from his farewell speech at Times Now. The video of the speech has been leaked online and gone viral. You can watch the video below, but first the success mantras.
Any great enterprise is a great team work. If every person in the office doesn’t feel part of the team, or if efforts are not made for the same, then no company can succeed. This is what Arnab meant when he said, “We have built this space together…I have been able to do it (channel’s success) only because of you.”
Office workers often don’t like their boss shouting at them. But Arnab explained that the boss shouts for a reason. Whatever I have said to you in past, please forgive me for it. I have only done it because I wanted this channel to up there.”
Workers should perform in a way that the boss won’t have to shout. We work only in the office, not outside. So, this much we can do for success.
2. Enjoy the work
Developing an attachment with the kind of work you are doing is important. And you can do that only when you would enjoy it. Or else, you would end up cribbing forever. Not just your own work, you must also enjoy working with the and for the team. Arnab also noted this: “I enjoyed working with you. I hope you also enjoyed having me.”
3. Don’t lose faith in the work you are doing
Sometimes, we start doubting and cribbing about our own work or the kind of work we are doing. That doesn’t work. If you don’t like it, leave it. Arnab said this in the context of people working for an independent media. “Don’t ever lose faith in the independent media. Nobody can teach us independent media. It has come and will happen.”

4. Nothing but your professional ability will save you and no one can take it away from you
If you are good at something, you are good at it. Nobody can take it away from you. Nobody can even teach you. But you must be a thorough professional. “We have nothing but our professional ability in life. I am very very grateful that you people gave me a chance to lead you,” Arnab said.
5. It is not the end of the game when you leave, it starts
People move on from one profession to another, one organisation to another. But such is the nature of private, independent professions that there is always a new challenge, a new game. Arnab echoed this, saying, “The game has just begun.”
