To tap more travelers, French city-to-city ride sharing app BlaBlaCar has partnered travel search marketplace ixigo. The partnership essentially means that when an ixigo user searches for travel options between two
cities, they will be shown ride sharing options on BlaBlaCar as well.
“This partnership gives us a potential reach of over 60 million travelers across India. We provide a strong alternative to people for their city-to-city travel needs especially as public transport infrastructure is insufficient,” said Raghav Gupta,
India Country Manager, BlaBlaCar.
With this partnership, ixigo will add another option for its users, apart from information on and booking of trains, buses and flights. However, note that ixigo launched its own taxi discovery app, ixigo Cabs, for its users to find nearby taxis from different service providers.
Aloke Bajpai, co-founder & CEO, ixigo, said, “We are delighted to be bringing Europe’s largest ride sharing platform closer to Indian travellers. With this partnership we are able to offer ixigoers more choice and convenience over overcrowded buses and hard to get train seats.”
Blablacar, which connects carowners with empty seats to people looking for a ride, entered India in January. It makes distance-based cost recommendations for every journey, ensuring the car-owners don’t make any profit. The company claims to have offered more than 100,000 seats in its first 100 days of India operations.
