The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting will launch an eight-hour talk show ‘Zara Muskura Do’ — the “do” pun in the title to mark two years of the NDA government — on May 26 to showcase the government’s success stories.
While the main panel discussion before an audience will be held at India Gate and telecast live across the country, a hub each will be interlinked from Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Meghalaya.
The show will be interspersed with video grabs of the common man’s understanding and gains from the government’s flagship programmes like Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, One Rank One Pension and Jan Dhan.
Short documentaries will also be beamed at the panel discussion to show the before-and-after success stories from Swachh Bharat, Digital India and Rural Electrification. The moderator is likely to be actor Amitabh Bachchan.
The exercise, it is learnt, is being undertaken to dispel the public notion of policy paralysis at the Centre and pre-empt criticism from the Opposition Congress which brought out a report card ‘Ek Saal, Desh Badhaal’ (One year, country in distress) last year.
An informal Group of Ministers, comprising Nitin Gadkari, M Venkaiah Naidu, Piyush Goyal and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, was formed this month to identify schemes that could be showcased. The I&B has written to other departments, seeking details of key programmes for publicity across platforms.
The show’s underlying theme will be national integration through central schemes with the grand finale possibly a host of leading artistes singing the national anthem at six centres.
The show is planned to be mounted through Doordarshan with the event management likely to be handed over to Martin Sorrell’s Geometry Global Encompass Network.
