Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has summoned Gorakhpur MLA Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal to Lucknow over the MLA’s public admonishment of a woman IPS officer Charu Nigam. UP CM Adityanath summoned Aggarwal days after a video of Nigam wiping tears with a handkerchief went viral. Aggarwal was seen arguing with Circle Officer (CO) Nigam on Sunday in the Chiluatal Police Station area in Gorakhpur.
An Indian Express quoted Aggarwal as saying that he did not misbehave with Nigam. The MLA in fact accused Nigam of canning people protesting against liquor shops in the area and assaulting a pregnant woman. Aggarwal alleges that there is a tacit understanding between the police and the liquor mafia as a shop, which had closed 15 days ago had suddenly started doing business again reports Mint.
According to a Business Standard report Nigam says that Aggarwal misbehaved with her and refused to acknowledge in full public view that he is speaking to a woman police officer. Nigam added that protesters were removed as they were obstructing traffic. Nigam says protesters had been dispersed before Aggarwal reached protest venue which she claims angered the MLA. As per a Mint report, Aggarwal had asked protesters to stay put and lift the blockade only after his persuasion.
According to PTI, Nigam said, ”I did not weep, as it is not ingrained in my personality. However, I got emotional when my senior officer supported me.”
