Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was in the national capital today to meet Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi and he also paid a visit to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. After the meeting the chief minister said that the Center has assured him of converting 73 state highways into national Highways, ANI said. “We have been assured 73 State Highways will be converted into National Highways”, he said after meeting the minister.

Thanking the Narendra Modi Government for clearing so many schemes, Yogi Adityanath added,”First time so many schemes have been cleared which include around Rs. 10,000 crore from Central Road Fund for construction of roads”, he was quoted as saying by the agency.

In the meantime, his ambitious plan to make the state’s roads pothole free has run into trouble and it may well be at least two more months before travellers can actually get to enjoy a smooth ride. Minister for Rural Engineering Service  Rajendra Pratap Singh said yesterday that, “Owing to e-tendering, there is difficulty in making the roads of the state pothole-free by June 15, and it may take additional 45-60 days to ensure that the roads are pothole-free. Due to the new mining policy also there is difficulty in getting the raw material.”

The minister, while referring to the thrust on policy measures said that state government will not work in old pattern, but will function in a transparent manner. He was speaking to PTI. He also claimed that the Yogi Adityanath-led government was taking stern action to make the state corruption-free. “After the formation of Yogi Adityanath government, the screening of the corrupt officers has started. Action has been taken against six dozen officials of the department including 10 engineers so far. A large number of department officials have also been suspended,” the agency quoted him as saying further.
