Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram today came out in support of BJP leader and former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha, who in an article in the Indian Express slammed the NDA Government’s handling of the economy. Taking to Twitter, Chidambaram said, “Yashwant Sinha speaks truth to power. Will power now admit the truth that economy is sinking.”
“Finance ministry, in the best of times, calls for the undivided attention of its boss if the job has to be properly done. In challenging times it becomes more than a 24/7 job. Naturally, even a superman like Jaitley could not do justice to the task,” Sinha, who was also finance minister during Atal Behari Vajpayee’s tenure as prime minister, wrote in the paper.
In his article in the paper, Sinha went on to say that due to the new way of calculating GDP growth rate, the actual figure changes. Chidambaram also took the point from Sinha’s article where he said that when the BJP was in Opposition, it was against the “raid raj” but it seems to have become the order of the day, Indian Express added.
Earlier in the day, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also , took to Twitter to slam the government over what Yashwant Sinha wrote on the condition of the Indian economy. While expressing his opinion in the oped page of Indian Express Sinha said he would be failing the nation if he didn’t voice his concern.
“Ladies & Gentlemen, this is your copilot & FM speaking. Plz fasten your seat belts & take brace position. The wings have fallen off our plane,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted this morning.
