A woman succumbed to her injuries in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after she was attacked by a leopard.
The victim, identified as Salma Devi, had come out of her house on Friday night when was attacked by the leopard.
Victim’s family members and neighbours were alerted as she shouted for help but by the time they intervened Devi had been badly injured.
She was rushed to district hospital in a critical condition where she breathed her last on Friday night.
Superintendent of Doda District Hospital, Yakub Mir, said that this was the seventh incident of leopard attack to come to the hospital since May.
“At around 7:30 p.m. the victim was attacked by a leopard. She was brought to the district hospital at 9:30 p.m. in a serious condition. She was operated upon but her injuries were very grievous and she had wounds were lacerated due to which she could not survive,” said Mir.
The body was handed over to the family. Later, victim’s kin and residents of Doda took to the streets to protest government’s inaction over repeated leopard attacks in the district.
Protesters raised slogans slamming the local administration and the state government and demanded immediate steps be taken to ensure safety of citizens.
Residents have been living in fear as this is the fourth such attack in the district within a week’s time.
