Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to oversee all the preparations that are taking place for the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21 in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. The Yoga Day celebration may take place on the Ramabai Ambedkar ground which is likely to be attended by Prime minister Narendra Modi and yoga guru Baba Ramdev. International Yoga Day was proposed by PM Modi during his UN speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014. He chose June 21 as the international day for yoga as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
Earlier in the month of April, to ensure the forthcoming International Yoga Day is a resounding success, the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) ministry is pulling out all the stops, especially since the event has built up quite a reputation due to the personal support lent to it by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The AYUSH ministry sent out a letter to all the government departments to ensure greater and more active participation of youth as compared to the last two years.
The letter asked all the state government departments to direct all the efforts and their issues to their subordinate offices across the country, asking them to prepare an action plan for the event. The ministry is keeping a check on all the preparations that are taking place towards the celebration of the International Yoga Day on June 21st.
