Bharatiya Janata Party MP Vinay Katiyar on Saturday said that efforts will be made to construct a Ram Temple in Ayodhya even before 2018. Katiyar said: “2018 kya hum usse pehle bhi koshish karenge ki banna shuru ho jaaye. Aap dekhte jaaiye (We will try that construction of Ram Temple begins even before 2018). (sic),” Katiyar was quoted as saying by ANI. Katiyar is known for sensitive comments in regards to Ram Temple issue. At the time of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, had stated that no progress in the fields of development, education or income is of any use until the Ram Temple is built in Ayodhya. The Rajya Sabha MP had further asserted that the construction of the temple for the Hindu deity will be successful and claimed that the people of Ayodhya are also in favour of the same.

“Development has been done in the region, employment, education has also been provided, but without Ram Mandir everything is useless. The people of Ayodhya want Ram Mandir and it will be constructed,” Katiyar had said. An accused of conspiracy in 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case, Katiyar had alleged that Central Bureau of Investigation was fetching a conspiracy against him, Times Now had reported.

In a big setback to a number of BJP stalwarts, the apex court had allowed the CBI plea to restore criminal conspiracy charges against LK Advani, MM Joshi, Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case. However, the top court noted that since Kalyan Singh enjoys Constitutional immunity being Rajasthan Governor, he can only be tried after he leaves the office. He was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the incident took place in 1992.
