Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Kamaljeet Sehrawat, its DWARKA-B ward number 38 winner, as the nominee for the mayor post of South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Sehrawat, who was the chief of Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha, was recently appointed as party’s New Delhi unit vice president due to her “good show” in the women’s wing. She won from (Dwarka-B ward and defeated her nearest rival Sushma Bansal of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by a whopping 9,866 votes. As per Kamaljeet’s official website, she is currently serving as the President of Mahila Morcha (Delhi State) since November 2014. In past, Kamaljeet has also served as the party’s Delhi state secretary from August 2008 to November 2014. She has been elected as the councilor for a second term.
“I aim to work towards the overall growth of each citizen by spreading awareness in the field of education and encouraging required norms for the same. I devoted my entire life to promote education for homeless children,” Kamaljeet says on her official website.
Apart from Sehrawat, Neema Bhagat and Preeti Aggarwal are also set to get elected as the mayors of EDMC and NDMC respectively. The saffron party is set to get the posts of mayor and deputy mayor unopposed in the south and the east Delhi civic bodies, polls for which would be held on May 19 and May 22 respectively.

For the posts of deputy mayor in the SDMC, BJP has fielded Kailash Sankla (Punjabi Bagh), outgoing Leader of House in SDMC, Subhash Arya told PTI. For the post of chairman of the south corporation’s standing committee, BJP has named Bhupender Gupta. While Shikha Rai, Nandani Sharma, Tulsi Joshi and Poorva have been fielded for the post of being members of the panel.
