Vinod Khanna dead: PM Narendra Modi posts condolences on Twitter, says ‘pained by his demise’

The veteran actor who was also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a sitting MP, passed away on April 27 after a prolonged illness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, took to Twitter and offered his condolonces after the demise of legendary Bollywood actor and parliamentarian Vinod Khanna. He posted this message: “Will always remember Vinod Khanna as a popular actor, dedicated leader & a wonderful human. Pained by his demise. My condolences.” The veteran actor who was also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a sitting MP, passed away on April 27 after a prolonged illness. In its reaction, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital said Vinod Khanna breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma. Khanna had been admitted at the hospital.

The sudden demise of the iconic actor has left his fans, the industry as well as the political spectrum shocked and saddened and condolences and triibutes have poured in. President Pranab Mukherjee also took to Twitter to pay his respects, “Heartfelt condolences on. the passing away of Shri Vinod Khanna, a highly talented and acclaimed actor & MP.”

BJP President Amit Shah too, shared his condolence. He said, “Saddened by the demise of Vinod Khanna ji, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and millions of fans. He will remain in our hearts through his peerless acting and service as a Parliamentarian. May God bless the departed soul. Om Shanti Shanti.”

The newly elected Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath also took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude. He said, “The sudden demise of actor and BJP MP Shree Vinod Khanna was a painful to hear. May God rest his soul in peace.”

Khanna had joined the BJP in 1997 and successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab in 1998. Later in 2002, Khanna was appointed as the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism and in 2003 he became the MoS for Ministry of External Affairs.
