In order to protect animals and birds at the Sayaji Baug zoo in Gujarat’s Vadodara from soaring temperature, zoo authorities have made arrangements to provide relief to the zoo inmates.
“As the summer season is on, we have made different types of arrangements for the animals. Around the birds’ enclosure, shades have been made and dried leaves are put over them. For animals like tiger and lion the same practice is being applied,” said curator, Sayaji Baug zoo, Narendra Zhala.
Vadodara has been reeling under extreme heat wave with maximum temperature rising up to 42 degrees today.
The zoo authorities have put up shades alongside cages, placed sprinklers to keep the zoo surroundings cool and ice slabs inside enclosures of male and female bears to bring down the temperatures.
Animals at the zoo, brought from different continents of the world, are finding it hard to adapt to rising daytime temperature.
Special care is being taken for cat family, including lions, tigers, leopard and cats. To avoid dehydration in animals, a dosage of glucose and medicines with vitamins is being administered under supervision of veterinarians. Fruits like water melon, papaya are also being fed to birds. (ANI)
