The death toll in terrorist attack which took place at an Army Base camp at Jammu & Kashmir’s Uri on Sunday, has risen to 18. Sepoy Vikas Janardhan, who suffered bullet injuries in the attack, has succumbed to his injuries at R&R Hospital, New Delhi. The latest death takes the toll to 18. In one of the deadly terrorist attack in recent times, 17 soldiers were martyred after four highly equipped terrorists attack the army base camp in wee hours of Sunday. All the four terrorists were neutralised. Most of the casualities on Indian Army’s part occured as the Jawans were unarmed at the time of attack. As soon as the armymen took charge, the millitants were soon neutralised.
Four heavily armed fedayeen stormed into the administrative buildings and store complex of an infantry battalion in Uri, home of the 12 Infantry Brigade, near the Line of Control (LoC). The four terrorists were neutralised after a three-hour long gunfight. As per the initial probe, the militants belonged to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammad. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, Army chief General Dalbir Singh and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar flew to Srinagar to take stock of the situation.
