As a part of the investigation being conducted following the Uri attack, where 18 soldiers were killed, the headmen of four villages on the Line of Control have been questioned. The probe gaze has also turned to the vacant prefabricated shelters near the LoC, which are suspected to be their residing spot for a brief period before Sunday’s attack.
The shelters were installed after the 2005 earthquake for area residents whose homes were damaged due to the calamity. Located near the LoC, these are currently used as temporary shelters for cattle and it is suspected that the terrorists stayed in one such shelter after crossing the LoC. Residents and headmen of Sukhdar, Gohalan, Jabla and Salamabad near the LoC have been questioned.
According to the villagers who were questioned by the J&K government official, said that saw some men in military uniform on Saturday evening, whom they assumed to be Army personnel. As per the official, these statements are claims that will need further corroboration.
In the wee hours of Sunday, four heavily militants stormed the rear base of the 12 Infantry Brigade. After prolonged gunfight and explosions, 18 soldiers were killed while several others were injured.
