The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the Uttar Pradesh Police’s anti-riot drill which involved the usage of saffron flags.
“The BJP wants to make this a political issue when it’s not. We will give orders to the police to keep such things in mind next time,” said SP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.
Mock rioters had waved saffron flags during an anti-riot drill at reserve police lines in Allahabad on Friday. The incident had angered BJP leaders, who termed it an insult to crores of Hindus.
“Akhilesh Yadav used a mock drill to hurt sentiments of many by making the mock rioters hold a saffron flag. This is an insult to crores of Hindus, Akhilesh Yadav needs to apologise for this,” said BJP leader Shrikant Sharma.
