Uttar Pradesh minister Iqbal Mehmood sparked a controversy after a video showing him being hosted by a manager in bank in Sambal has surfaced. The bank at that time had reportedly closed for public dealing. Reports said that the state minister for food and drug administration along with his two sons were allowed to move inside by the bank’s manager at 7 PM last Wednesday , even as the bank was closed for the public at 6 PM. The minister was reportedly in the managers cabin while the notes were exchanged.
Defending himself, the minister said he had stood with others in the line before moving inside the bank. Acccepting that he was sitting with the bank manager for some time, Mehmood added that he and his sons got the currency notes exchanged only after producing valid ID papers, an ET report has said.Bank manager Javed Khan said that on Wednesday the branch had run out of cash quite early , so services for people were suspended for a few hours. Soon after cash arrived in the evening, the staff resumed the process, because which they continued working late.
He further said that the minister came around 7 PM and stayed in the bank for close to 20 minutes, during which time his and his two sons’ currency notes exchanged after they submitted valid IDs. He added that no protocol was breached in the process.
