Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani on the completion of three years of the Narendra Modi government listed out the achievements and future plans of her ministry at a press conference at the Press Information Bureau (PIB) office. The minister who was listing the achievements of her ministry said that 19 new textile parks have been sanctioned in the last three years. The ministry has facilitated investment of up to Rs 6,400 crores and helped generate employment for 50,000 people. The focus of the scheme has been to pay more attention to less developed states.
Information received from the textile industry states that currently 45 million people have been employed by the sector. The ministry also states that over 1.7 crore additional jobs will be required in the next 5 years. The minister also stated that 7.75 lakh individuals have been trained in partnership with 58 government and industry partners. Over 70 percent of these 7.75 lakh trainees were women.
The ministry has also set up 12 focus incubation centers sanctioned with an outlay of Rs 62.45 crore for optimal use of resources, generation of employment and growth of technical textiles.
Smriti Irani has launched a new Rs 6000 crore package. The minister’s ambitious plan is expected to create over one crore jobs in the next three years. The package also plans to boost exports by $30 billion and bring in investments worth Rs 74,000 cr in the sector in the aforementioned time frame.
In a bid to increase exports, the duty-free entitlement of trimmings, embellishments and other specified items have been increased from 3 percent to 5 percent.
