The accident took place around 9.30 p.m. on Monday when a family was returning from Rajrappa temple in a Mahindra & Mahindra Bolero MUV, the police said.

According to the police, the SUV’s tyre got trapped in the railway tracks at Ramgarh district crossing.

The people onboard tried to get down but a speedy Howrah-Bhopal train hit their vehicle and carried it for more than 100 metres, said the police.

The vehicle was torn into pieces, and it was stuck in the engine of the train. It was somehow detached with the help of the residents.

The incident took place near Bhurkunda railway station which is around 70 kms from Ranchi.

All the occupants died on the spot, and the train was stopped for nearly three hours.
