Comic Con India is all set to become a more immersive, fun experience this year. Apart from the usual treats like merchandise stalls and ‘cos-play’ competitions (in which fans dress up as characters from popular culture), the sixth edition of the annual comic-based convention will feature a unique ‘experience zone’.
As part of this experiential platform, visitors will get to witness the ‘Nodwin ESL Gaming Zone’, which will host the ESL India Premiership—a mix of online and offline tournaments. Fans will also witness the final leg of the offline tournaments of the ESL India Premiership (an e-sports tournament), where the champions of the last three ‘starter cups’ will compete on a bigger stage, for more prize money and in front of a larger audience.
Other exclusive experiential zones at the convention includes the ‘AXN Zone’ and ‘Rogue One—A Stars Wars Story’. Fans will be able to witness some of their favourite characters like Sam and Dean, Sherlock, Heisenberg and Dexter come alive and engage with them in a fun-filled way.
Then there is the ‘WWE Zone’, which will have a grand stage complete with a huge LED wall that will allow fans to select their favourite WWE superstar’s ‘entrance theme music’, as they make their way down the specially created ramp. This will give fans a chance to feel, act, and enter the ring just like their favourite WWE superstar.
At the ‘Artist Alley’, visitors will get an opportunity to interact with artists, illustrators and designers working for comics and related fields. The alley will feature some well-known names in the field such as Saumin Patel, Aniruddho Chakraborty, Akshay Dhar, Shamik Dasgupta, Rajeev Tamahakar, Sumit Kumar, Parmi Jethwani, Reshmi Chandrashekhar, Nikita Das Gupta, Rohit Soni and Rohan Bhatia.
Like every year, the convention will feature special guests. Some big names include Paul Blackthorne, a British-born actor who plays Quentin Lance on the American television network CW’s hit series Arrow; Erik Larsen, co-founder of Image Comics, an American cartoonist known for his work on Savage Dragon and Spider-Man for Marvel Comics; and Tom Richmond, caricaturist, cartoonist and humorous illustrator for MAD magazine, Cartoon Network and National Geographic, among others.
For this year’s Comic Con, tickets will be available on the official website as well as at the venue. The tickets will be priced at Rs 375 (for single day) and Rs 675 (for the ‘super fan VIP ticket’ that allows entry on all three days).
Jatin Varma, founder, Comic Con India, says, “We head into our sixth year in Delhi, bigger and better than ever before. This is the biggest convention we have ever organised, with tons of new exhibitors, activities and exclusives. We have a lot more on offer for fans and we hope to provide Delhi its biggest pop-culture event of the year.”
