Earlier on September 21, a 35-year-old man had tried to break open an ATM to get money for boozing and was caught red-handed, reported Times of India. K Sivasankaran, a native of Thoothukudi, had settled in the dollar city a decade ago, police said. Sivasankaran was a tailor in a garment manufacturing unit and was an alcohol addict. Police told TOI that he was staying on the streets for past few months as he used to spend all his salary on alcohol. The police added,”As he was irregular at work, his employer used to pay him a part of his weekly salary on Sunday and the other on Monday to make sure that he turns up for work on Monday. Sivasankaran was frustrated over the arrangement as he could not spend much money to buy alcohol.” Srinivasan was noticed by passers-by while he tried to break open the ATM. The people caught him and informed the police. A case was filed against him by the Anupparpalayam police, added TOI report.
