Nine years ago, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were trending on Indian television. All the media houses were covering this landmark case in the nation’s history where a 14-year-old was killed inside her house and the police had suspected the role of her parents in this killing. Today, the dentist couple was trending again, this time on Twitter as the Allahabad High Court set aside CBI’s court order and acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the Aarushi Talwar murder case. The High Court said that the reason behind this decision was that as per circumstances and evidence on record, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar can’t be held guilty.
So, after nine years it is finally clear that neither Rajesh or Nupur were involved in the killing of their daughter. Okay! But then, who killed Aarushi Talwar? The 14-year-old was found dead in the bedroom of her house in Jalvayu Vihar, Noida with her throat slit and head bludgeoned. Initially, it was suspected that family’s live-in domestic help Hemraj Banjade who was missing could be the man behind the act but, a day later, he was found dead on the terrace of the same flat, with the door locked from inside.
The Noida police then named Talwars’ former domestic help Vishnu Sharma as a suspect in the case. However, when the investigation was joined by the Delhi police, it said that it was a case of honour killing. After this stunning claim, Aarushi’s parents Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar, both dentists, came under the scanner. Police said that Rajesh killed his daughter after finding her in an objectionable position with Hemraj.
Following this, two lie detector tests were performed on the Talwars along with the narco-analysis tests. In its closure report of December 2010, CBI gave a clean chit to the servants and named Rajesh Talwar as the prime suspect.
However, after today’s verdict, it is clear that even Rajesh Talwar is not the man who killed Aarushi. So, it wasn’t the domestic help or the parents, then who exactly was behind the murder, an answer that we fail to find even 9 years after the horrifying incident.
What has to be understood at this point is that this case was never about whether Aarushi was killed by her parents or not. This case was about a 14-year-old being killed in a brutal manner inside her house at night which is located in a safe locality. In these nine years, this case went from Aarushi-Hemraj murder case to Noida twin murder case to just Aarushi Talwar murder case.
Yes, the parents might have got their justice but the real justice remains to be delivered.
