Amid escalating tensions along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, two unidentified terrorist, had reportedly attacked policemen at the District Police Lines in Kulgam district of Kashmir, claiming the lives of two police personnel and injuring another. While the critically injured head constable, Shamsuddin, was rushed to the nearby hospitals, constable Jalaluddin and head constable Tanveer Ahmad lost lives on the spot.
Earlier in the day, in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Bandipora district of Kashmir, two militant were killed and an Indian Army jawan was martyred. Following the clash, joint team of Army and policy conducted anti-terror operations in Sopore and Bandipora districts of the valley.
Todays clashes came days after, three Indian Army jawans were martyred in an infiltration bid, believed to have been conducted by the Border Action Force of the Pakistan Army. Among the three slain jawans, the body of one was found in a mutilated state. Following the attack, in a massive assault launched by the Indian Army, seeking retribution, Pakistan’s Army captain and three other Pakistani soldiers were killed.
There had been frequent unprovoked cross-border firing by forces from the neighboring country, since the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes along the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan, destroying several terrorist launch pads and killing at least 26 terror suspects. The surgical strikes by the Indian Army came as a response to the Uri attacks, where four heavily armed terrorists attacked the Indian Army bases in the Uri district of Kashmir, claiming the lives of 18 Indian Army jawans.
