Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week had written to opinion makers across fields including industry, cinema and sports seeking their support for ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement, saying that it is the noblest service. Famed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also got a letter from PM to extend his support to the campaign. Pattnaik took to Twitter and posted the letter he received from PM Modi. He wrote, “Honoured to receive a letter from Hon. PM @narendramodi Ji to join #SwachhBharat campaign through my SandArt & activities #SwachhataHiSeva.”

While mentioning his effort towards preventing open defecation, he said that he used his award money to build two toilets for a fisher man’s family at Penthakata in Puri beach. In another tweet, he wrote, “Glad to build two toilets for Fisher man family at Penthakata, Puri beach from my award money to prevent open Defication.”

‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ is a cleanliness drive by Centre under Swachh Bharat Mission. President Ram Nath Kovind earlier this month launched a nationwide he campaign to reignite the cleanliness movement by mobilising people’s support in the fortnight to October 2. Modi, who had on October 2, 2014, picked up a broom to launch the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Campaign, to promote sanitation, has written personalised letters to iconic celebrities, prominent industrialists, sportspersons, film stars, inter-faith leaders and other noted personalities to enlist their support reported PTI.

Introducing the subject of his short letter as something which was very close to Mahatma Gandhi’s heart, Modi said, Bapu believed strongly that Swachhata is for each of us to practice.
