Soon after Sushma Swaraj on Saturday took down Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly meeting, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and thanked the External Affairs Minister for recognising what has happened in the country over the last 70 years. Taking to his Twitter page, the Congress leader wrote: “Sushma Ji, thank you for finally recognising Congress governments’ great vision and legacy of setting up IITs and IIMs.” Congress has always been critical of the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for not acknowledging the party’s contribution in building of the nation. Addressing the 72nd UNGA session in New York, Swaraj ripped apart Pakistan during her 21-minute fiery speech. She said India has established institutions like IITs, IIMs and AIIMS and Pakistan had created terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Haqqani network.

Not just Gandhi, but other Congress leaders too praised EAM Swaraj for her befitting reply to Pakistan. In a series of tweets, Surjewala said, “Thank @SushmaSwaraj ji for stating hard facts about INDIA & Pak at UN.Befitting reply to those who ask what happened in last 70 years.”

“@SushmaSwaraj mirrored the yeoman’s progress made by India under Congress rule, making ‘inclusive growth & progress’ as India’s mantra,” Surjewala wrote. “Time to move words into action as Pak still receives $743million annual U.S aid, collaborates with China on CPEC & buys arms from Russia,” he added in another tweet.

Swaraj addressed the UNGA panel for the second time and leaders from as many as 193 countries were in attendance. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi complimented Swaraj for delivering a strong message in front of Pakistan on the sidelines of terrorism. “She has made India extremely proud at the world stage,” PM Modi tweeted.

Other ministers including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh too hailed Swaraj’s befitting reply to Islamabad. Singh took to Twitter and said, “Congratulations to Smt. @SushmaSwaraj on her powerful, measured and nuanced articulation of India’s stand on the issue of terrorism at #UNGA.”
