External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who was hospitalised in AIIMS in Delhi is expected to be discharged from the hospital. Swaraj had undergone a 5 hour long kidney transplant surgery at the cardiothoracic centre. The organ for the minister, according to a report was harvested from a living unrelated donor as according to AIIMS, a suitable donor was not available in Swaraj’s immediate family. A number of her supporters had come forth to donate their kidneys, but none of them were accepted. The minister’s kidneys had been affected because of diabetes. At first, Swaraj was put on maintenance dialysis where she was undergoing dialysis, thrice a week. After being in and out of hospital for some months, Swaraj was admitted to AIIMS on November 7.
The minister has been active even during her stay at the hospital, only yesterday the minister pledged to help the distressed Indian woman who could not afford to transport the dead body of her husband from Tokyo.
Sushma Swaraj is one of the most popular politicians she was also named ‘Global Thinker 2016’ for ‘novel brand of Twitter diplomacy” in a list made by Foreign Policy magazine. As Sushama Swaraj posted online about her health, wishes and prayers poured in from people around the country but her followers did not stop at that and offered the politician their kidney for transplant. A muslim man, Mujib Ansari had also offered his kidney to Sushma Swaraj, in a tweet he had said “@SushmaSwaraj mam I am a BSP supporter and a Muslim,bt I want 2 donate my kidney 4 u,4 me u r like my mother figure, May allah bless u,” another muslim man, Nyamath Ali Shaik had also offered his kidneys for the minister, to which Sushma Swaraj had replied saying, “Thank you very much brothers. I am sure, kidney has no religious labels.”
