Much to his relief, political strategist Prashant Kishor, who has been facing criticism since the Congress party lost in the Uttar Pradesh elections has finally received praise from one quarter – newly elected Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh. Kishor has been criticised by the Congress party insiders for failing to liven-up the party’s poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh and the attempts that he did make to combat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) proved ineffective in the face of the campaigns run by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Shah.
The praise was as surprising as it was substantial – Amarinder believes that Kishor was the reason behind Congress victory in Punjab. In fact, it has been revealed that it was Capt Amarinder Singh himself who had not only roped in Kishor for the Punjab elections but also insisted Rahul Gandhi to consider him for the Uttar Pradesh elections campaign. Amarinder Singh said that because of Kishor, Punjab Congress got its strategy right and it played a big party in its big assembly win.
However, Prashant Kishor failed abysmally for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. Apparently, he was the one who suggested Congress-Samajwadi Alliance would work for both parties and had been reported to have said Congress would win about 100 seats or so. Many local leaders had also complained of being left out of the strategizing part by Kishor. However, after losing Uttar Pradesh elections, Punjab has been the saving grace for Prashant.
Prashant Kishore, 38, who hails from Bihar, used to work as a health expert for a programme of United Nation until he returned to India and joined the Modi election campaign. He is considered as the real brain behind organizing the popular ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ campaign for Modi and the entire BJP social media and wider online campaign was planned and implemented by him in 2014. Later, he was said to have been the reason behind the victory of Nitish Kumar in Bihar.
