Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Aam Admi Party leader in Punjab, today said that the party is conspiring against him while the Opposition leaders are trying to defend him. He alleged that his friends in the party have conspired against him. Chhotepur is facing a possible ouster from the party because of a video that purportedly shows him accepting money. The video was apparently shot by an AAP member.
Chhotepur has agreed that he accepted the money but that was for party funds only. However, Chhotepur, who is now the national convenor of the party, denied that he will quit the party. “I have brought AAP Punjab this far, why will I quit the party?” he said. Chhotepur said that he has worked for AAP hard. “I brought it so far ahead, put my blood and sweat into it.
Chhotepur has been in and out of several parties in the past. He had a long stint with the Congress, Akali Dal and AAP. However, he has always been considered to be a man with independent views. Even as his rivals mock him for changing parties frequently, they can’t think of him being indulged in corruption.
Chhotepur is one of the senior leaders in Punjab. He is considered to be a pioneer in creating a base for Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP in the state. A former SAD MLA, he was once a close aide of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh. Chhotepur and Amrinder, along with 22 SAD MLAs had quit then CM Surjit Singh Barnala government in protest of uniformed police action in the Amritsar’s Golden Temple, according to The Indian Express.
