At least 10 people were injured during a stone-pelting incident between two groups at a Muharram procession in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, according to a police official.

The incident took place at around 7 pm on Thursday as the procession, which began at Gujri Chowk, was heading to Garib Shah Baba dargah.

“The stone pelting took place in the Malipurya area of Sakharkherda village. Some 10 people suffered minor injuries,” a police official said, PTI reported.

He added, “The mob was dispersed after tear gas shells were lobbed. The situation is under control. A sizeable number of police personnel under Additional Superintendent of Police BB Mahamuni are at the site.”

In another incident, one person died and 15 others were injured after a Tazia hit a high-tension wire during a Muharram procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday.

Local reports suggest that all those who were injured in the incident were taken to a nearby hospital. Condition of 15 of them is said to be critical. However, one person died during the treatment.
