For Malayalis, the wait is finally over as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the Kochi Metro and boarded the Metro from the Palarivattom station. He was accompanied by Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Governor P Sathasivam, Dr. E. Sreedharan, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and other dignitaries. Following this, PM Narendra Modi proceeded to Kaloor Stadium where he addressed the gathering by greeting in Malayalam.
Addressing the occasion, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated, “When it was time for the Kochi Metro inauguration, the state government had no doubts as to who should inaugurate it. We wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate it. Everyone is aware of PM’s tight schedule but he graciously agreed to come for the inauguration. I thank PM Narendra Modi for coming here for the inauguration. Those who wanted to create controversies over Kochi Metro have been disappointed. Where Kerala’s development is concerned, our government will fully co-operate and work together with the Centre. We want to take development forward in the state and want Centre’s support.” He added, “Kochi Metro will boost the tourism industry in the state. It will also reduce pollution and traffic congestion in the city.”

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan praised ‘Metro Man’ Dr. E.Sreedharan and the commitment of the migrant workers who had worked tirelessly for making Kochi Metro a reality. “Migrant workers contributed immensely to the Kochi Metro with their hard work, the state government has already provided for their health insurance. I request the Kochi Metro to take the workers on a day’s ride, ” Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan stated. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also thanked Centre and DMRC for the co-operation extended with regard to making Kochi Metro a reality.
