Srinagar attacks: Two policemen were killed and one cop was injured in two separate attacks carried out by terrorists in Srinagar. One of the two attacks took place in Hyderpora area of Srinagar where terrorists opened fire at a police party last night. Two policemen were injured in the attack were admitted to 92 Base Hospital of the Army. Unfortunately, constable Shehzad succumbed to his injuries. In another shocking incident, a policeman was shot dead outside his residence in Kulgam district in south Kashmir, according to PTI report. Shabir Ahmad was taken to nearby hospital but he did not survive. This incident reminded us of the brutal killing of Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz in Kulgam district last month. The 22-year-old was abducted and shot dead by terrorists while he was on leave and had gone to attend a wedding of the daughter of his maternal uncle, the report said. In recent times, Valley has witnessed spike of such attack at security forces.
On May 1, a brutal attack was carried out by Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. Seven persons, including five policemen, were killed after they were dragged out of a bank’s cash van in Kulgam. The cash van of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank was waylaid by a group of heavily-armed terrorists this afternoon, according to report. The terrorists shot five police personnel and two bank employees from point blank range, the report said. A spokesperson of the Hizb Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists had told a local news gathering agency that its cadres had decamped with four weapons from the scene of the attack. On that very day, terrorists had targeted a senior police officer in Pulwama district but the official had managed to he escaped unhurt. Terrorists fired at the vehicle of Deputy Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmad at Dangerpora in Pulwama district this evening, a police official said.

Apart from these two attacks yesterday, a civilian was critically injured as security forces opened fire on a stone-pelting mob in Rangreth area on the outskirts of the city. A group of youth pelted the security forces’ vehicles with stones at Rangreth, a police official was quoted as saying by PTI. The security personnel opened fire to chase away the protestors, resulting in injuries to one person, the official said. It has been learned that Nazir Ahmad was rushed to SKIMS hospital at Soura in a critical condition.
