Newly appointed Samajwadi Party state president Shivpal Singh Yadav has suspended a number of leaders from the party for six years. These include four MLCs and some other party leaders. The leaders who have been suspended are MLCs Arvind Yadav, Sanjay Lathar, Anand Bhadoria and Sunil Sajan. Others are: Mohammad Abad, Digvijay Singh Dev, Muntazim Kidwai, Pradeep Tiwari, Vikas Yadav and Brijesh Yadav.
ANI reported that that MLC Arvind Yadav was sacked from the party for his alleged involvement in illegal land grab activities. Some of the sacked leaders are considered close to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. According to reports, some of the leaders were sacked for indulging in anti-party activities and speaking against SP supremo Mulayam.
Shivpal took the responsibility of the SP state president yesterday. Samajwadi Party is facing a power struggle from within. The power struggle came to the fore when Akhilesh stripped Shivpal of some key portfolios after the latter was appointed as the SP state chief by Mulayam Singh Yadav a few days ago. It took over three days of drama for Mulayam to finally placate his son as well as brother.
Mulayam Singh had said both Akhilesh and Shivpal will not oppose him and the party will withdraw action against former MP Gayatri Prajapati, who was removed by Akhilesh over graft charges. Appealing to party workers to stay united, Mulayam had said: “It is elections time. We should all come together and work. There is no fight between Ramgopal Yadav, Akhilesh, and Shivpal.” Claiming that the Samajwadi Party is a family, Mulayam said, “Every father and son duo faces issues. There is no rift. But there is a fault of our people as well, who spoke to media.”
