Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Sunday. According to the Indian Express, the Congress President was suffering from food poisoning and it is reported that she will get discharged on Wednesday. Dr D S Rana, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said, “Mrs Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on Sunday due to food poisoning. She is well now and will be discharged soon.” Earlier, this year in March, the senior leader had been abroad with son, and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for a routine medical check-up.
Sonia Gandhi has not been in very active in her political life for a long time now. In fact, this state of affairs has been prevailing ever since she had to be taken for medical attention after falling ill during a roadshow in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi during the initial stages of campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on August 2, 2016. She has been to the hospital a couple of times more after that incident.
The then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had visited Sonia Gandhi after she had fallen sick during the Varanasi roadshow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also conveyed his wishes to the Congress President at the time. Gandhi had then said, “I will come back very soon, and then visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.”
She had also thanked the people of Varanasi for their support. Meanwhile, a senior section of Congress leaders, according to the Indian Express, had rallied behind Rahul Gandhi and had called for his elevation as the President of the grand old party.
