Kolkata Police have charged actor Vikram Chatterjee in the model and anchor Sonalika Chouhan death case. The actor has been charged with culpable homicide under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to ANI. The model died in a car accident late last month in Kolkata. The Indian Express had reported that the car driven by Chatterjee, had rammed into a pavement on the Rash Behari Avenue. Chatterjee was injured in the accident while Sonalika died in a hospital.
Vikram had told police that he was driving the car at the speed of 70 km/hr and that he wasn’t driving the car in an inebriated case. He had reportedly told police that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the day but wasn’t drunk, according to the Indian Express.
A police officer told the Indian Express that Vikram had been driving at a higher speed then he claimed, the officer added that the Event Data Recorder (EDR) in the actor’s car has revealed that the actor was driving at a speed of 105 km/hr a few seconds before the unfortunate accident. EDR is a device installed in cars to record information related to vehicle accidents.
Bengali thriller Khoj starring Vikram Chatterjee will have delayed release due to the accident. Arka Ganguly the director of the film has told PTI that the release has been delayed by a week to give the actor some time to recover from the trauma. The movie which was to be released on May 26 has been scheduled to release on June 2, according to an Indian Express report.
